Microsoft and OpenAI revise deal terms, require external panel to evaluate AGI claims

Microsoft and OpenAI have changed their partnership terms. This update is one of the biggest shifts in AI.

From now on, any claim from OpenAI about reaching Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) must be reviewed by an independent expert panel. They can’t just announce it internally anymore.

Key Points:

  • OpenAI can also change into a public benefit corporation (PBC). After this change, Microsoft will own a 27% stake in OpenAI’s new setup, down from 32.5% in its for-profit arm.

  • Previously, Microsoft had exclusive rights to some OpenAI products and hardware. With the new deal, OpenAI's consumer hardware rights now include others besides Microsoft.

  • The updated agreement eases some restrictions on OpenAI’s capital raising. It also gives OpenAI more freedom in partnerships and restructuring.

  • Both companies are changing their roles. Microsoft remains closely tied to OpenAI with its investment and cloud services. OpenAI gets more freedom to operate and a clearer route to success. This might lead to a public offering.

OLED iPad mini, MacBook Air, iPad Air are in the works

Apple is set to move several of its devices from LCD screens to OLED displays. This is the same technology used in its premium iPhone and iPad Pro lines. Here’s what to expect:

The iPad mini is likely to be the first device to get the OLED upgrade. A redesign might happen as soon as 2026. It might have an OLED screen and could also be more durable, like being water-resistant.

Key Points:

  • The iPad Air is expected to follow, switching to OLED around 2027. This upgrade will enhance display quality in the mid-range tablet category.

  • The MacBook Air will likely adopt OLED later, after 2028. This delay will help Apple keep its Pro and Air lines distinct for longer.

  • Switching to OLED brings benefits like deeper blacks, better contrast, and improved efficiency. However, it also means higher manufacturing costs and supply-chain challenges. These issues likely explain the staggered rollout across devices.

  • In summary, Apple seems to be expanding its OLED strategy beyond flagship devices. It plans to offer premium display technology in more affordable models soon.

Microsoft's Impressive Free Cash Flow - MSFT Stock Could Be Worth 28% More

Nvidia is close to becoming the first publicly traded company worth $5 trillion.

Recently, Nvidia’s stock rose about 3%, raising its market cap to nearly $4.9 trillion. Some trades even touched $4.94 trillion.

Key Points:

  • Nvidia made headlines by announcing $500 billion in bookings for its AI processors. This surge follows that big news. It also plans to build seven new supercomputers for the U.S. Department of Energy.

  • Analysts say Nvidia's value highlights its important role in the global shift to AI infrastructure. It has evolved from a niche chipmaker to a foundation of the AI era.

  • However, some warn that this valuation is “very high” and offers little room for error.
