OpenAI, Reliance partner to add AI search to JioHotstar

Microsoft confirmed a bug in the AI chat feature of Microsoft 365 Copilot. This bug let the system read users' private emails. It summarized them without permission for weeks.

• The issue mainly affected the Copilot "work tab" chat. It impacted Office apps such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

• Emails marked as confidential or sensitive were still processed by the AI. They had protection from data loss prevention (DLP) policies.

• The bug first showed up in late January 2026. It remained active until Microsoft started releasing patches in early February.

• Why this matters

• Organisations depend on sensitivity labels and DLP controls to keep confidential communications safe. The bug got past these controls. This let Copilot’s summarisation engine access protected emails.

• Microsoft’s response

• Microsoft traced the issue to a code error, labelled internally as CW1226324. A fix was deployed in early February, and Microsoft is monitoring its rollout. The company is reaching out to affected customers to confirm the fix. However, it has not shared how many users or organisations were impacted.

• Independent security researchers first spotted the issue and reported it through advisory channels. The IT department of the European Parliament has blocked Copilot AI features on lawmakers' devices due to privacy concerns, likely tied to ongoing talks about confidentiality.
