Disney signs deal with OpenAI to allow Sora to generate AI videos featuring its characters

The Walt Disney Company and OpenAI have made a three-year deal. This deal covers content licensing and investment. OpenAI’s Sora AI video generator can create short videos based on user prompts. It uses over 200 characters from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars. This includes icons like Mickey Mouse, Iron Man, Darth Vader, Simba, and Ariel.

• Disney is making a $1 billion equity investment in OpenAI as part of the deal.

• The license covers characters, costumes, props, vehicles, and environments. However, it does not include talent likenesses or voices.

• Fans can share their videos, and some curated Sora clips may stream on Disney+ starting in 2026.

Drax plans to turn coal-era infrastructure into data centre by 2027

Britain’s Drax Group Repurposing Coal-Era Infrastructure

Drax in Britain is known for its power station in Yorkshire and focus on renewable energy. It plans to reuse its old coal infrastructure and grid connections. This will support a data centre, possibly by 2027.

Key points:

The company is preparing a planning application for a data centre. In the first phase, it aims for about 100 megawatts on land at Drax Power Station. This will use infrastructure once meant for coal generation.

This effort aims to maximise the value of the 1,000-acre site. It will utilise grid access, cooling systems, and transformers for new high-energy uses like data centres.

Drax can use up to 500 MW of power for a data centre under a UK government Contract for Difference for biomass generation after 2027. This allows for future expansions beyond the initial 100MW.
