This former Apple CEO believes OpenAI could be Cupertino’s ‘first real competitor’ in decades

John Sculley, who was Apple’s CEO from 1983 to 1993, thinks OpenAI is Apple’s biggest competition in years.
Key points from his remarks:
Sculley says AI isn’t Apple’s strong suit. He thinks Apple trails behind more proactive players in this area.
He predicts a shift from the “apps era” to an “agentic era.” In this new phase, smart AI agents will replace many standalone apps.
Sculley points out that Apple is slowly rolling out the next-generation Siri. He also mentions the company’s lack of transparency regarding its AI plans.
He says that OpenAI buying Jony Ive's device startup, tied to Apple, is a smart move into AI-driven hardware.
Sculley thinks Apple’s next leader should move away from selling “apps and tools.” Instead, they should focus on subscription or agent-based models.
‘AI can’t be just a bubble. Deep investments going into building infrastructure’: Google exec as company commits $15 billion to India data centre hub

Google plans to invest $15 billion over five years. This will help build a big AI hub and data centre campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India.
Key details:
This will be Google’s largest AI hub outside the U.S.
The project includes gigawatt-scale computing, a new subsea cable gateway, and clean energy systems for its operations.
Google is teaming up with Adani Enterprises / AdaniConneX and Bharti Airtel. They aim to build infrastructure like subsea cable landings and fibre networks.
Google Cloud leaders say this is not a speculative “bubble” — they see it as a solid investment to meet real AI demand.
The hub is set to grow India's cloud and AI sector. It will also improve latency and enhance connectivity in eastern India.
U.S. and China roll out tit-for-tat port fees, threatening more turmoil at sea

On October 14, 2025, the United States and China started charging new port fees on each other's ships. This move heightened tensions in their ongoing trade dispute.
Key details:
The U.S. had planned charges of $50 per net ton on Chinese-owned, -built, or -operated ships. China responded by placing 400 yuan (~$56) per net ton fees on U.S.-linked vessels.
China’s rules allow some exemptions. Chinese-built vessels and empty ships coming in for repairs are not affected.
The U.S. provided temporary relief. Chinese-operated ships leased long-term for U.S. ethane and LPG won’t need to comply until 10 December.
China has also imposed sanctions on U.S.-linked subsidiaries of Korea’s Hanwha Ocean. This is due to their involvement in a U.S. investigation.
